Poly / Cotton Broadcloth (35% cotton/65% poly): We call our fabric "broadcloth" which originated in England in the 1500's. Our poly/cotton blend is 99 x 50 - slightly more durable than the common 60 square cottons available elsewhere. The fabric is tightly woven and is mode in a plain weave with a fine rib in the direction of the filling. Poly cotton broadcloth is very durable and wrinkle resistant. Uses include Jackets, skirts and slacks, tablecloths and all kinds of craft projects.
Cotton seeds are tough enough to survive travel across oceans on the wind.
Linen / Cotton Blend (25% linen / 75% cotton):Here to stay, this luxurious natural white linen/cotton blend will surely delight those who long for linen and want the forgiveness of cotton. More silk-like than sack-like, this linen blend is a perfect partner for apparel and lightweight, yet durable fabric projects. Color reproduction on the linen/cotton is as elegant as it is colorful.
The production of linen fabric uses five to 20x less water and energy than the production of cotton or other synthetic fabrics. Linen fabrics are biodegradable and recyclable.
Fleece:Polyester fleece is a soft, fuzzy fabric used for sweaters, sweat shirts, jackets, mittens, hats, blankets, and in any other applications where a warm, wool-like material is needed. It is a two-sided pile material, meaning that both the front and back surface of the fabric sprouts a layer of cut fibers, similar to corduroy or velvet. Polyester fleece is an extremely durable fabric that not only holds in warmth but resists moisture and dries quickly. Unlike many other synthetic woolly textiles, polyester fleece does not pill-bunch up into little balls-after extended use. It became popular for out-door gear in the early 1990s, because back-packers and hikers found it lighter weight and warmer than wool. It is increasingly popular as a fashion fabric, and has found a host of more specialized uses.
Polyester fleece has been used to make underwear for astronauts, in deep-sea diving suits, and as ear-warmers for winter-born calves.
Cotton Duck: Cotton duck is a type of textile. It is used in a wide range of industries, and can be found used in the manufacture of shoes, slipcovers for furniture, work clothes, sails, bags, and a variety of other things. As a general rule, cotton duck is plain, but very strong. Like other textiles made from cotton, duck is relatively easy to care for. In most cases, it can be washed and dried at any temperature. It will become more soft and flexible with time, ultimately breaking down at areas of high stress. When used as a garment, cotton duck can be stiff and unwieldy at first, but it will settle within a few washings and wearings, and it should start to feel like a second skin.
Cotton duck is involved with the history of duct tape, sometimes called duck tape. The original duct tape was in fact made from cotton duck, treated with a special adhesive.
Micro-Denier Suede: Microdenier suede is a term for fabric made from microfiber filament yarns that undergo a sueding finishing process. Microsuede starts with microdenier yarns, which are used to produce microfiber fabrics. Then the surface of the microfiber fabric goes through a sueding finishing process. Sueding a fabric is a process of running the fabric through cylinders with a sandpaper-like surface, creating a napped surface with an extremely soft feel. Even though comprised of synthetic fibers, microsuede has the touch and weight of genuine suede.
Denier is the unit of fineness for rayon, nylon, and silk fibers, based on a standard mass per length of 1 gram per 9,000 meters of yarn.
Lycra / Spandex:Lycra (often referred to as spandex) is a fashion-friendly fabric that stakes the claim of making its wearer look AND feel better. Lycra fiber is a man-made elastane fiber. It is never used alone, but always blended with other fibers, it has unique stretch and recovery properties. It's unique elastic and restorative properties allow the fabric to "love you back". Invented in 1958 by a team of scientists. Lycra has quickly been adopted by the world of fashion as a favorite in many styles and designs.
About our Lycra:
60" width
5.0 ounces / square yard
Common uses for Lycra:
Fashion, Swimsuits, Dancewear, Athletic wear
Did you know?
Lycra can be stretched up to seven times its initial length before springing back to the original position once tension is released. We used to stretch ourselves that far, but that was college, and it was a really long time ago.
Polyester Satin: This polyester fabric prints beautifully, with rich, vibrant colors. Satin, the oft-ignored second cousin to silk is making a comeback. Satin was first woven by the ancient silk weavers of China and was greatly desired by early Greeks and Romans.
Satin originated in the Middle Ages as a term for the more lustrous types of the heavy and luxurious silk fabric samite.
